Fire started under the hood of a 2024 Ford Mustang after the owner allegedly experienced clutch troubles

Photos have emerged online showing what may be the first fire to consume a seventh-generation Mustang Dark Horse. The sad sight reportedly appears to have occurred due to (or at least after) an issue with the car’s manual gearbox.
Over the weekend, a 7thmustang forum user posted images of a 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse parked on the side of a road with its hood and trunk open, and a massive blaze emanating from the engine compartment.

Alongside the images, user 1320pony relayed the owner’s description of the circumstances that led up to the incident. According to the owner, the problems began when the clutch became stuck against the floor after shifting into fifth gear.
Although they were able to lift the pedal off the floor with their foot, once they let it go, it pushed right back to the floor. Despite the position of the clutch, they report that the Mustang was still in gear, and that they were unable to force it into neutral. Therefore, they pulled over, and the car “conked out.”
While undoubtedly alarming for the owner, the worst was yet to come. After pulling over, they attempted to investigate the issue by getting under the pedals. Fortunately, their daughter, who was nearby, noticed smoke emanating from the car.
The owner popped the hood, and found a fire “right behind where the clutch is.” In the provided images, it’s clear to see that the fire grew to a surprising size, causing the windshield to crack and the hood to melt apart. In the aftermath of the fire, we can see that the engine bay is a charred mess.
It is not yet clear what caused the issue with the clutch, nor if it is an isolated event. We have reached out to Ford for more information, and are awaiting its response.
