2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla spied for first time

Toyota looks to be readying the next step in performance for its feisty GR Corolla.

The hot hatchback was launched for the 2023 model year and has been treated with updates in the ensuing years, the most recent being the addition of Toyota’s fast-shifting Direct Automatic Transmission as an alternative to the standard manual.

Judging by our spy shots of prototypes spotted testing at the Nürburgring, the next update may be the most substantial yet: the arrival of a GRMN Corolla.

GRMN is the range-topping option for road cars developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsports department. It stands for “Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring,” and cars classified as GRMNs can be compared to top offerings from the likes of Subaru’s STI and Nissan’s Nismo divisions.

While the prototypes resemble the current GR Corolla’s former Circuit Edition model with the fixed rear wing and hood bulge, there are some new details like a third vent in the center of the hood below the standard pair of black vents, perhaps hinting at a new tune for the turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-3. The engine delivers 300 hp in the GR Corolla, and already received a bump in torque for the 2025 model from 273 to 295 lb-ft.

Other new details include vents in the top of the front fenders. The current side vents in the front fenders have also been enlarged on the new design. The rear spoiler is also larger than the one on the Circuit Edition, which together with the new front fender vents means overall downforce should be increased.

Other upgrades typical of GRMN models include improved rigidity and reduced weight, and any GRMN Corolla should also benefit from these measures.

Look for a debut next year, meaning we should see the vehicle introduced for the 2026 model year in the U.S. Toyota is also testing an updated version of the GRMN Yaris sold overseas, and may also be testing a potential GRMN Supra.
