Pagani Huayra Codalunga Reportedly Impounded By The Police In Switzerland

Most limited-production hypercars are typically treated like garage queens, but exceptions exist, like the Pagani Huayra Codalunga pictured here, seen cruising on public roads in Switzerland. As if driving a long-tail Huayra in the wild isn’t exciting enough, its owner was interrupted by local police, who reportedly impounded the rare Italian exotic that’s worth $7.3 million.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown, but a short video circulating on social media depicts two Swiss police officers in uniform inspecting the Pagani and conversing with the owner over paperwork. The vehicle was parked on the side of a mountain road, accompanied by a Ferrari Testarossa carrying skis on its roof. Following the brief stop, the Codalunga is captured driving away, escorted by a silver Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, presumably from the police fleet.

The footage comes from automotive photographer Freddie Atkins who happened to be at the scene. One of the officers asked him not to take any photos, but he was already shooting the video that he later uploaded on his Instagram profile.

In the absence of an official explanation, commenters speculated on the reasons behind the police stop and alleged impounding of the hypercar. Some suggested that the front license plate of the Huayra Codalunga might have been insufficiently large or visible to comply with local regulations. Others pointed out that the Pagani lacked appropriate tires for snowy conditions and was not equipped with snow chains, potentially violating regulations in the region.

Another potential reason could be a speeding offense, as Swiss police are known for their strict enforcement of speed limits. According to local authorities, “excessive speeding can result in significant fines and prison sentences ranging from one to four years.”

The Pagani Huayra Codalunga is a special version of the Italian hypercar that debuted in 2022 with a bespoke long-tail design and a limited production of five units. The pictured model is likely the first example to be produced and comes with Italian license plates. The Codalunga is powered by an AMG-sourced V12 engine producing 840 hp (626 kW / 851 PS) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque, sending power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed Xtrac automatic gearbox.
