Hyundai Sonata Driver Flees Over Police Cruiser After Being Hit With Taser

A video has surfaced online showing the moment police fired a Taser at the driver of a Hyundai Sonata in Brooklyn last week.

Local media reports that police officers initially spotted the white Sonata parked in a no-parking area in Crown Heights with three occupants inside. They approached the car and immediately smelled marijuana and ordered the driver to get out of the car.

The 29-year-old complied and exited the Hyundai but soon after, the front passenger is alleged to have jumped in the driver’s seat and grabbed the wheel, the New York Post reports.

The officer fired a Taser at the driver twice, but that didn’t stop him. The man proceeded to pin the throttle of the Hyundai, hitting the rear of a parked car and slamming into the side of the parked police cruiser, forcing the Sonata up onto two wheels as it drove over the hood of the police car before slamming back down to the pavement.

“This individual, while fleeing the location, struck two parked vehicles and drove over the front of a police vehicle,” New York Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica McRorie said in a statement.

Police soon located the Sonata three blocks away but the driver fled on foot. The 29-year-old who was initially stopped by police was found to be in possession of fraudulent credit cards and a credit card skimming device and was criminally charged. He was arraigned and released without bail. The man who fled on foot remained at large as of Thursday last week.
