A police officer and an unsuspecting motorist have been lucky to survive a scary collision in Idaho.
The following incident occurred on the morning of December 1, 2021 on eastbound Interstate 84 at S. Ten Mile Road in Ada County. Dashcam footage from the police vehicle shows that a trooper had pulled over and was assisting the owner of a Toyota Camry with a flat tire. The Idaho State Police Public Affairs Office notes that the emergency lights of the police vehicle were activated.
Suddenly, the officer and the driver of the Camry both look to their right and a split second later, a white Chevrolet pickup truck comes into view of the dashcam. The truck slams into the rear of the Camry, forcing the officer to jump over the concrete median to avoid being hit. The driver of the Camry is also forced to jump back.

An investigation by local authorities has revealed that one vehicle began to slow as it passed the patrol car. However, this vehicle was hit by another, triggering a pile-up involving four vehicles. Two of them, both pickups, were pushed to the left of the road and hit the patrol car and the Toyota. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
“Traffic stops are very high risk,” Idaho State Police sergeant Brandalyn Crapo said in a statement. “They’re necessary to keep people safe on the road and to help those stranded, but we need motorists’ help so we can all go home at night. Slowing down and moving over for emergency vehicles and workers isn’t just a courtesy, it’s the law. Drivers need to be alert to emergency lights and vehicles and always alert to what’s happening around them. That keeps all of us safe.”
