Jay Leno Is Quite Impressed With The New Nissan Z

Reviews

The 2023 Nissan Z is one of the most exciting new sports cars to launch this year and Jay Leno recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces for the very first time.

The comedian brought along the manager for project communications at Nissan North America, Jonathan Buhler, for the review and takes a deep dive into the Z. One of the first thing he learns about the car is that approximately 40 percent of owners are opting for the six-speed manual while 60 percent are ordering it with the nine-speed automatic.

As the review progresses, Leno and Buhler take a look under the hood where Nissan has fitted a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that pumps out 400 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque. We are offered a tour of the engine bay where there are covers for the battery and brake fluid, as well as the engine cover that hides the two large heat exchangers. Buhler also explains that Nissan has opted to give the new Z a mechanical limited-slip differential as opposed to a viscous LSD.

The 2023 Nissan Z range starts with the entry-level Z Sport variant. It is priced from $39,990 regardless of whether the customer opts for the six-speed manual or the nine-speed automatic. Those seeking some additional features can opt for the Z Performance, priced from $49,990.

Various important upgrades come standard on the Z Performance. These include the aforementioned mechanical limited-slip differential, larger front and rear brakes, 19-inch forged Rays wheels, Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, launch control, aluminum pedals, front and rear spoilers, and a rev-matching system for the six-speed manual. The range is then topped out by the Z Proto Spec, priced from $52,990, and finished exclusively in Ikazuchi Yellow paint with bronze-painted 19-inch Rays wheels and yellow brake calipers.
