Hurricane Ian has been wreaking havoc on the southeast United States and especially Florida, with the extreme rain and winds causing large amounts of property damage to those in heavily affected areas. Unfortunately, part of that property damage now includes a McLaren P1, which was purchased by its new owner just a week prior.
The P1 belongs to Instagram user Lambo9286, whose real name is Ernie. As mentioned before, he had just taken ownership of the car a week ago, and was quite excited about it, posting it 12 times between then and now.

Ernie’s last post before the Hurricane hit actually showed him going to pick up supplies in the P1, which, little did he know, would be moments before disaster. A post from a different account shows flood waters entering his garage, and it’s already up to the top of the P1’s wheel wells. At this point, the car is almost certainly totaled already, but it gets worse. According to his next post, the flood waters were so strong that they not only floated the McLaren off the ground, but also forced it through the closed garage door and out onto the street.

An aftermath video shows the P1 outside being engulfed by the flood, with the water level almost coming up to the roof at times. To get a sense of how bad that is, the McLaren measures 46.8 inches (118.9 cm) in height, meaning there was almost 4 feet (1.22 m) of water at the time the video was taken.
Ernie’s car was one of only 375 P1s ever built, and it’s estimated to be worth in excess of $1.5 million. He also lost his Rolls-Royce Phantom, which could be seen sitting next to the P1 in the garage, but we’d imagine he’d be grieving the loss of his new McLaren a bit more.
