Places shouldn’t get much safer than a police impound lot, but a group of thieves reportedly pulled a stunt right out of Gone In 60 Seconds.
According to WREG, thieves broke into the Memphis Police Department’s impound lot and stole several different vehicles. Details are hazy, but one of the thieves reportedly used an impounded Dodge Charger to ram a gate. That particular model appears to have gotten stuck, but it seems like the thieves wanted to be part of the “Brotherhood of Muscle.”

As a result, Dodge Chargers were apparently the target. A victim’s father told the station his son’s 2017 Charger was stolen in the incident and police weren’t even aware it was gone until the duo tried to get the car. He went on to say, “The Major told us they stole three Chargers and a purple Infiniti, and they recovered one of the cars stuck in the gate used to run the gate down, and I believe they found the purple Infiniti.”
The Memphis Police Department isn’t saying much about the incident and we couldn’t find any references to it online through their official channels. The station also notes the department hasn’t revealed how many cars were stolen.
While a number of questions remain, the CBS affiliate reports this isn’t the first time a vehicle has been stolen from the impound lot. In March, a tow truck was taken and then used to steal other vehicles.
