Smart first made a splash as a Daimler subsidiary, making rear-engine minicars that could zip around Europe’s narrow streets and even park perpendicular to the curb. Now, Smart is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, designed and engineered in Germany and China, and built in China for export.
The brand is returning to Europe with the #1, a small full-electric SUV with the latest connectivity and infortainment systems and a range of up to 440 km. It will be followed by the #3, a compact coupe-style SUV based on the same Geely SEA architecture. And more cars are in the works.
Hear about Smart’s strategy to reconquer Europe from Dirk Adelmann, CEO Smart Europe, at this year’s Automotive News Europe Congress.
