The latest numbers on the microchip shortage: All regions take a hit

News

Shortages of microchips will force automakers around the world to cut another 91,000 vehicles from their production plans this week, according to AutoForecast Solutions.

European factories will take the biggest hit, but North American plants are also still coping with inadequate deliveries of chips.

The industry has been slowly climbing out of the problem through a combination of better sourcing arrangements with chip producers and factory planning workarounds. But the supply challenge is ongoing.

Production lines in China and other Asian markets will experience a less severe setback for the week. Both regions face production cuts of about 17,000 vehicles, AutoForecast Solution estimates.
