Ford Mustangs Are Like Homing Missiles, If They Miss You, They’ll Circle Back To Finish Up | Carscoops
One of the most impressively poor driving feats we’ve seen lately occurred in Europe when an unlicensed driver took his friend’s Shelby GT500 for a spin

- An unlicensed driver in the Czech Republic crashed a borrowed Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 after running a red light while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
- Miraculously, no one was injured, but the driver faces charges for reckless behavior and the cars sustained significant damage.
Sometimes, when you see a video of an accident, you think, “This idiot can’t drive.” And in this case, you’d be correct. An unlicensed driver in the Czech Republic recently crashed what appears to be a (previous generation) Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, or at least dressed up to look like one, in one of the weirdest accidents we’ve ever seen.
The incident occurred in Hradec Kralove, a small city about an hour away from Prague, just before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. In a video, the Mustang, which stands out due to its bright yellow paint, can be seen behaving unusually while waiting to turn left.
As the vehicles ahead of it start turning, it waits in the left turn lane as the lights turn against it. Once the light goes red, and cross traffic starts to move, the Mustang guns it, and tries to make it through the intersection.

Fortunately, a Renault Megane Estate looking to turn left stops before making contact with the Ford. But as the pony car speeds past it to make its left turn, it slides wide, and off the road, narrowly avoiding pedestrians waiting to cross the street.
It then continues sliding along the sidewalk and back onto the street, taking down a street sign as it goes. The drift continues, as the Mustang just misses another vehicle, and then, like a homing missile, it hits the black Renault Megane whose front it narrowly avoided moments earlier.
Truly, this is one of the most mystifying series of events we’ve seen on the road, but the police report sheds some light on how it happened. The error appears to come down to three factors, each more damning than the last.
Firstly, according to the police report, this wasn’t even the driver’s car. Instead, he was offered the wheel of the powerful vehicle by its actual owner. Secondly, the driver had allegedly been drinking. The police report indicates that he was supposed to meet the owner to have a “beer and a shot of rum with lunch” shortly before taking the wheel. Apparently, he indulged more than planned, as he was over the legal limit when he took a breathalyzer test. And to top it all off, guess what? He didn’t even have a driver’s license. Bravo, Mr. Responsible Driver!
Fortunately, despite his antics, no one was hurt in the accident. Police estimate that the Renault got a bit of a bruising, totaling around 50,000 crowns (about US$2,100 at current exchange rates) in damage, while the Ford took a bigger hit, tallying up to 200,000 crowns (around US$8,600) in damages. But hey, who’s counting?
The 50-year-old Mustang driver has quite the laundry list of charges against him: running a red light, speeding, driving without a license, and just for kicks, driving under the influence. I guess he figured he’d check off all the boxes in one go.
