Ford F-150 Lightning Crashes Into 7 Cars At Michigan Car Wash | Carscoops
The driver hit the accelerator pedal and sent three tons of electrified F-Series into several cars waiting for a wash

- A Ford Lightning driver lost control at a car wash and damaged seven vehicles in total.
- Video of the incident appears to indicate that the driver simply hit the wrong pedal.
- It’s unclear if the driver had a medical episode and if the authorities charged them with anything.
Oftentimes, the only result of going to the car wash is a little more pride in one’s vehicle and just a little less money in the bank. However, for seven different drivers at one such establishment in Michigan, the outcome was almost the exact opposite.
A Ford truck driver lost control of her vehicle and ended up causing significant damage to six other vehicles.

The incident appears to have taken place at Diamond Carwash and Detail on Five Mile Rd, in Plymouth, Michigan. Security video from the building shows a line of cars waiting to enter the carwash and a blue Ford F-150 Lightning behind several of them. As the line moves forward slowly the truck picks up the pace.
It smashes into a sign and into the back of a Toyota Sienna almost simultaneously. It then barrels over a bit of landscaping and into a Honda Accord. It actually mounts the Honda to the point that the front passenger tire of the truck comes to rest on the rear corner of the car. The Accord was hit hard enough that it slid over and hit another vehicle next to it.
As for the Sienna, it was pushed forward so hard that it created a separate pile-up in the carwash line. A Ford Taurus, Dodge Charger, and Ford Explorer all ended up with significant damage as a result. Interestingly, the Charger was part of the Livonia Police Department so at least an office was available to render aid and work the scene immediately.
It’s unclear at this stage what caused the driver to lurch forward the way that they did. Electric vehicles are lauded for their typically excellent acceleration, but in cases of mistaken pedal engagement, things can go wrong fast.
That appears to be what happened here and potentially in other similar cases. We’ve reached out to Diamond Carwash, the Livonia PD, and the original posters on various social media platforms for more details. We’ll update this post as they become available.
