Mick Schumacher set for F1 test with Alpine

News

Mick Schumacher will do a Formula One test with Alpine next week as the French team continues to mull over its 2025 driver lineup.

Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael, raced for Haas in 2021 and 2022 and is now a reserve driver for the Mercedes team.

The German driver is also competing with Alpine’s World Endurance Championship team.

He will drive the 2022 Alpine F1 car at French circuit Paul Ricard on July 3.

Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan, son of motorbike racing legend Mick, will also take part in the test.

Doohan finished third in F1 feeder series Formula 2 last year.

Alpine has not yet decided its 2025 driver lineup but has confirmed Esteban Ocon will not remain with the team beyond this season.

Ocon’s teammate Pierre Gasly looks like a strong candidate to keep his seat but the identity of who will race alongside him is harder to predict.

ESPN sources revealed this week Alpine has joined the race for Carlos Sainz‘s signature, but it appears Williams is still the most likely destination for the Ferrari man.

Schumacher has been viewed as being an outside bet given his underwhelming stint with Haas, although he might well be able to force himself into contention with a strong test showing.

Doohan’s chances appeared to grow over the Spanish Grand Prix when Alpine announced it had signed the Australian’s manager, Flavio Briatore, as executive adviser to the F1 team.
