  • After the crash, police found a rifle inside the BMW 6-Series.
  • Despite the severity of the impact, the driver attempted to run on foot.

Police in Los Angeles have arrested three people in connection with the crash of a BMW 6-Series Convertible that’s believed to have been stolen and led authorities on a high-speed chase.

The scene unfolded on Thursday last week. Police state that a motorist was approached by a gun-wielding thief who pointed the firearm at them and proceeded to steal some of their belongings, including a “purse or wallet and possibly a cell phone.” The Los Angeles Police Department doesn’t know where the thief got the 6-Series from, but a pursuit started shortly after the armed robbery.

A media helicopter captured the final moments leading up to the chase. It seems as though the driver had been playing a little too much Grand Theft Auto and, despite relatively heavy traffic, weaved past oncoming cars and crossed onto the wrong side of the road multiple times, seemingly without a care in the world. The dramatic footage also shows the thief running multiple stop signs.

At the 1-minute mark, the driver of the BMW recklessly entered an intersection at speed and slammed into the rear quarter of a white vehicle, spinning it around and shunting it into the side of a building. The BMW, meanwhile, suffered significant front-end damage and slid sideways into a parked car and a tree near the intersection of Wilton and 5th Street.

Despite the severity of the crash, the male driver managed to climb from the wreckage and started to flee on foot. Unfortunately for him, the helicopter’s camera operator tracked his every move. Police ultimately arrested three individuals in connection with the theft and crash, consisting of two men and a woman.

Speaking with FOXLA, the LAPD revealed that it pulled a rifle from the wrecked BMW after the crash.
