Swedish performance EV brand Polestar is bringing down the starting price of some of its models in the U.S. while raising it on others.

The U.S.-built Polestar 3 midsize SUV, which was launched last summer as a 2025 model, has already received a price cut.

Thanks to a new single-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain option, the 3’s starting price has been lowered to $68,900. That’s down from $74,800 previously, when the entry-level powertrain option was a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Both figures include a $1,400 destination charge.

Horsepower is also reduced by dropping a motor, with the RWD 3 rated at 299 hp versus the AWD 3 which is rated at 489 hp as standard and 517 hp with an available Performance Pack.

Range gets a boost, though. The EPA estimate for the RWD 3 is 350 miles, versus 315 miles for the AWD 3 and 279 miles for the AWD 3 with the Performance Pack. All versions feature the same 111-kwh battery.

Despite the lower pricing, the RWD 3 still comes with most of the same standard features as the AWD 3. This includes 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, heated side mirrors, LED headlights, a powered tailgate, and Polestar’s Pilot Pack suite of electronic driver-assist features. Included is a surround-view camera, cross traffic warning, and an automated driving system for single lane highway driving.

There’s bad news for fans of the Polestar 2. The Chinese-built compact liftback for 2025 is only available with an all-wheel-drive powertrain equipped with a Performance Pack. This bumps the starting price to $66,200, including destination. The 2 for 2024 was also offered with a rear-wheel-drive powertrain for a starting price of $51,300 and with a regular all-wheel-drive powertrain for $56,700, though those models are no longer available.

The AWD 2 with the Performance Pack was given a 247-mile EPA range estimate for 2024, whereas the RWD 2 and regular AWD 2 had estimates of 320 and 276 miles, respectively. The AWD powertrain uses a 78-kwh battery while the RWD powertrain uses a unique 82-kwh battery.

When asked by Motor Authority about the streamlined 2 lineup, a Polestar spokesperson said the company is committed to offering a three-car lineup at present, but that the focus for North America is very much on the 3 and 4. The 4 is a compact crossover with coupe-like styling and is a new arrival for 2025. While initial examples of the 4 are being built in China, Polestar will eventually add production at a plant in South Korea, enabling the automaker to avoid U.S. tariffs placed on Chinese-made EVs. Polestar hasn’t said whether there are similar plans to source the 2 from outside China.

The 2025 Polestar 4 is priced from $56,300 in the U.S. That’s with a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain. Adding all-wheel drive bumps the price to $64,300. Both figures include destination.
