A peek inside Lucid’s virtual reality ‘configurator’

Industry

Like many legacy luxury automakers, Lucid Motors offers several levels of customization for its future vehicle portfolio, starting with the Air sedan that will soon go into production.

As a direct seller of its electric vehicles, Lucid provides an online configurator, but it takes that to the next level inside its Studio retail locations with a 4K virtual reality configurator.

Using a VR headset, shoppers can sit in the driver’s seat of the configurator and adjust the various interior design packages, along with the exterior color.

They can also step outside of the car and walk around to see how their order would look from different angles. Likewise, shoppers can configure multiple vehicle combinations online and receive a six-digit code for each one. By visiting a Lucid store and punching those codes into the VR configurator, customers get a three-dimensional look at the different configurations in virtual reality.

“Everything you can build on our website, you can build on our configurator,” a Lucid sales representative said at the brand’s Los Angeles location last year.
