Allegedly Drunk Subaru Driver Calls Police On Wrong-Way Highway Driver – Turns Out It’s Him!

Calling 911 is something that very few of us ever have to do and typically it only happens in truly harrowing circumstances. For one allegedly drunk Subaru driver, that rare and harrowing circumstance was the realization that someone was traveling the wrong way on the highway. Sadly for him, it turned out that he himself was the erring driver.

Drunk driving is no laughing matter. It kills countless individuals each year and is a serious scourge on roads around the globe. That’s why some officials are working to require anti-drunk driving tech on all future cars. That sort of system would’ve saved the driver in this story a costly interaction with law enforcement and a lot of embarrassment too.

The Lancaster Sheriff’s Office posted both dashcam and body cam evidence of the stop to its Facebook post. In it we hear the initial call to 911 from the driver and then the subsequent contact with officers once they find the offending car.

“I’m on Highway 77 going north and there is somebody that is on the wrong side of the road… almost ran me off the road.” The driver is clearly disturbed by the near miss later saying “That was gnarly… That was like, a lot.” ‘A lot’ it must have been because police quickly caught up with the Subaru in question.

The video then shows the police pulling over the unidentified individual in a Subaru Impreza. “Do you know why I stopped you?” asks the officer. “Yeah, because I was on the wrong side of the road,” admits the driver. That’s multiple big-time mistakes coming home to roost.

The offending driver claims that he “must have missed an exit,” as the reason for why he was on the wrong side of the road. According to authorities, the driver had a blood alcohol content level twice the legal limit which is .08. Thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident.

The local authorities told Fox that the department shared the video as a way to highlight the potential danger of impaired driving. Law enforcement planned to use additional deputies to ensure a safer Labor Day weekend.
