Anyone Missing A Mustang? Florida Cops Find One Abandoned Upside-Down In Canal

  • A Ford Mustang was discovered upside down in a Florida canal, with its doors wide open.
  • The driver appears to have escaped, though the vehicle’s condition suggests a dramatic crash.
  • Locals say the area is known for donut enthusiasts, suggesting driver error might be to blame.

Another day, another car pulled out of a canal in Florida. This time it was a sixth-generation Ford Mustang and it’s going to need more than just a little TLC.

Little is known about the incident, but WFLX is reporting Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the scene on Wednesday morning and found the coupe upside down in the water. The Mustang’s doors where reportedly open, so it appears the driver managed to escape and flee the scene.

However, to be certain, a rescue diver went into the water to explore the surrounding area. This didn’t turn up anything and the car was eventually towed away from the scene. The pony car appears to be in pretty good condition, all things considered. However, besides mud and wetness, the airbags deployed and there’s some slight damage to the rear bumper.

While authorities aren’t sure what happened, the station talked to nearby residents and some said the area is popular with people who like to perform donuts. This suggests someone could have been goofing off, lost control, and ended up in the water.

That remains to be seen, but the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is on the case and they likely won’t have any problems locating the Mustang’s owner. When they do, it could be one interesting conversation.

Recent numbers are hard to come by but, in 2001, the Lakeland Ledger reported there were approximately 1,500 traffic accidents annually involving canals, lakes or other waterways in Florida.
