The driver went over parking islands, gass embankments, and well over 100 mph but still couldn’t evade police

Another person wrongly believed that they could escape the Arkansas State Police.
After leading officers on a 150 mph (241 km/h) chase, authorities rammed the fleeing vehicle.
Now, the driver is facing a slew of charges but is already out on bond.

It’s never a good idea to run from police, but it’s an especially bad idea to run from police that are known for their pursuit tactics. The Arkansas State Police don’t mess around and have shown they will risk their own safety and even that of others in the area to catch a person who runs.

One Dodge Charger driver found that out the hard way when they tried to escape in the early morning hours of June 30th.

The chase starts on I-630 just south of downtown Little Rock. The driver almost immediately accelerates to over 130 mph (209 km/h) and turns off their lights in an effort to evade police. They then jump onto I-30 going west while maintaining speeds that are double the limit. At one point it appears that the Dodge is almost gone. Officers only barely catch up to him before he sneaks off of an exit ramp.

As they catch up, the Dodge driver tries to escape into a parking lot by driving over a grass embankment, then over a parking island, only to realize officers are still right behind him. He then turns onto a lonely two-lane road and ASP swoops in for the PIT. They smash into the sedan, drive it partially into a ditch, and pull the driver out of the car.

It’s worth noting that the tactic of ghosting the Arkansas State Police (and other departments for that matter) isn’t totally without precedent. In the last year, we’ve covered at least two cases where drivers made off without getting caught.

In one case the driver had a Shelby Mustang at their disposal and in another, it was a Corvette. A black Corvette did the same thing to Texas police. In this case, it seems that the driver didn’t have the power or skill to get away.

According to the video description, the driver in question is Toribio Ruiz. Local records appear to confirm a person who looks like the driver and was booked the same day is facing a slew of charges including driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, fleeing with extreme indifference, driving while intoxicated, and felony theft by receiving. They were released on July 1st on a $30,000 bond.
