The UK Plug-in Car grant aims to stimulate the sales of electric cars by slicing a chunk of the price. Recently the value of the grant was reduced and the number of models eligible dramatically cut. Any car above £35,000 was no longer eligible for a £2,500 discount.
The list of eligible models remains healthy, but it was hoped this would grow as car brands worked on their prices to get their model on the coveted list. It seems this is already working.
Here are latest brands to react to the changes.
The price of the range topping e-C4 has been reduced to bring the whole compact car range below the £35,000 threshold.
Previously the only route to the longer range e-Niro SUV was to purchase the model in mid-range “3” trim level.
Kia has today added the 64kwh battery option to the cheaper “2” variant. Priced at £34,945, before the grant, the new model offers upto 282 miles of range (WLTP), the most of any sub £35,000 car.
Vauxhall
All prices for the new Mokka-E have been revised to ensure all models are still eligible for the grant.
Also, Vivaro-e Life Edition models have seen their list price “realigned” by more than £2,000, with prices starting from £34,995. The Vivaro-e Life Combi will be the same specification level as the Edition model and will also now start from £34,995.
