Chris Harris Gives Us A Tour Of Singer’s Insane 911 DLS

Reviews

Singer’s Dynamics & Lightweighting Study is one of the more exciting restomods cooked up in recent years and after many years of development, Chris Harris has had the opportunity to see what it is all about.

The veteran journalist notes that this is not an objective review of the car as he was involved in its development.

The highlight of the Singer DLS is of course the powertrain. The engine is a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder with four valves per cylinder that was designed with help from the legendary Hans Mezger. Not only does this engine sound absolutely extraordinary as it revs through to the 9,300 rpm redline but it pumps out 500 hp, roughly on par with the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3.

The combination of this engine with a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels and the car’s minimal overall weight means it is certainly quicker than a GT3 and looks absolutely perfect winding along some lovely country roads in Wales.

In the second half of the video, Harris takes the DLS to a tight and twisty track where he is able to explore the limits of its performance as, after all, he says it simply offers more performance than you can safely exploit on the road. The massive tires give the car plenty of grip but if you want to have some fun, it is very easy to kick out the tail and perform some epic slides.
