Corolla Driver Rear Ends Car Not Once, But Twice In A Matter Of Seconds

Offbeat

A Toyota Corolla proved that when it rains it pours after being involved in a strange double accident captured by dashcam and posted to Reddit recently.

The video comes from a rear-facing camera on a vehicle and was posted by Reddit user u/lulujai. In it, a Toyota Corolla directly behind the camera vehicle on a city street allows a gap to build in front of it. It then approaches the leading vehicle and shows no sign of trying to stop before running into it. What is, perhaps, most perplexing about the incident is that Corolla then takes a beat and accelerates back into the rear end of the car ahead of it.

Based on the information at the bottom of the video, it was shot at 12:27 on May 8, 2022. It also shows that the speed was declining from 8 mph (13 km/h), which makes sense if the cars were coming to a stop for a red light or stationary traffic ahead.

Although only having access to the camera feed facing backward makes it hard to know with certainty what was going on here, it could be that the Corolla driver simply lost focus and didn’t notice that the car ahead was slowing down. That’s bad, but accidents happen every day and nobody’s perfect.

The strange follow-up, though, may also have a fairly simple explanation. If I had to guess, I would suggest that the driver may simply have mistaken the gas pedal for the brake after the accident they had just experienced, which would explain why they seemingly accelerated so hard.
