Anybody can crash a car but one of the worst possible ways would be to have a service shop wreck it while it’s supposed to get fixed

Dashcam Shows Honda Service Tech Blow Through Red Light On Test Drive

Just about every single car owner is going to drop their vehicle off for service from time to time. Sadly, not all of those cars come home in one piece. A new video posted online demonstrates a danger that we’ve heard of all too often, cars driven somewhat recklessly by service techs. In this case, the car made it home safely but it was a bit dodgy for a moment.

The video in question originates from Reddit, where a user named ‘Ssign’ claims to have reviewed their dashcam footage following a recent service visit, purportedly in Ottawa, Canada. Although there was no apparent issue with their Honda, they decided to examine the footage afterward. Upon review, they discovered a nighttime test drive, and it appears that something went awry during this test drive.

During the test drive captured in the dashcam footage, the alleged service technician can be seen approaching an intersection and proceeding through a red light. It’s evident that they did this even as a car from the right side seemed prepared to enter their path. The driver of the vehicle exclaims, “Oh my god,” as they realize their error while in the middle of the intersection.

According to the poster, the driver was “better on the way back” to the shop. That’s great news considering how close things were to going really bad. Thankfully, the foible here simply involved a driver who was inattentive rather than intentionally hooning the vehicle in question.

In fact, this is far from the first and nowhere near the worst example that we’ve seen of this sort of thing. This year alone Carscoops has highlighted a case where one tech crashed a MK IV Supra, another where one wrecked an Alfa Giulia QV into a Porsche, and one more where a mechanic crashed a $100,000 classic Holden muscle car.

It’s not a surefire cure for success, but in many instances that we’ve reported on, a dashcam has helped uncover numerous accounts of vehicle abuse at the hands of service techs. Thankfully, the worst thing that happened in this story first spotted by TireMeetsRoad, is that a car was in a high-danger situation momentarily but sustained no damage.
