The SUV appears to have launched off a nearby hill, but none of the home’s residents were hurt

Placer County firefighters were forced to really use their training on Sunday, while responding to a bizarre call involving an SUV that somehow managed to crash into a home and ended up on the second story.
The Placer County Fire Department and CAL Fire say they responded to the call on Sunday in the Cape Horn area, near Sacramento. They were assisted by the Technical Rescue Team (TRT), as they worked to shore up the roof on which the crossover landed.
Together with the California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response (AMR), they worked to stabilize the roof before the single occupant of the vehicle could be rescued. Members of TRT used ropes to get out to the vehicle and extricate the occupant, and the local utility shut off power to the area.

Once the person was safely removed from the vehicle, they were treated by AMR staff who were waiting inside the home. While one person was reportedly injured in the incident, we don’t know the severity of their condition. The good news is that none of the house’s residents were injured in the incident.
Photos published by CAL Fire show that the home sits next to a hill that is at roughly the same level as the carport roof that the SUV landed on. That may help to explain how this accident happened at all, but authorities are still investigating the incident and the circumstances leading up to it.

A crane can be seen in some photos, helping to remove the car from the roof. It’s likely that the homeowners will be sleeping with one eye open for a while, given that the SUV broke through the wall of a dormer in the roof of the home. We don’t know the full extent of the damage, but it’s safe to say that it’ll be a while before the house is back to normal.
