Is The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N The Affordable Sports Sedan You Should Buy?

Reviews

It would appear as though Hyundai’s N division is incapable of producing a bad car and that’s especially evident with the new 2022 Elantra N.

Like most other models from its N performance division, Hyundai’s Elantra N is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. In this model it is good for 276 hp and 289 lb-ft (391 Nm) of torque and includes an ‘N Grin Shift’ mode that increases power to 286 hp for up to 20 seconds at a time, making the car even more thrilling to drive in a straight line.

Like other N models, the Elantra N really shines when you start to throw it through some corners, as Throttle House discovered when testing it out along some mountain roads near Los Angeles.

Putting the power to the pavement in a front-wheel drive car with this much power is never easy so Hyundai has fitted an electronic limited-slip differential. It has also equipped the Elantra N with its Integrated Drive Axle (IDA) that combines the wheel bearing, driveshaft, and axle into a single unit that saves a little bit of unsprung weight.

Throttle House is particularly impressed with the steering of the Elantra N. Depending on the driving mode, the weight of the steering changes but importantly, when driven in N mode, you can easily feel the weight transfer through the steering wheel. Place more weight on the front end and the steering will feel heavier, allowing you to place it precisely on the road.
