Is The New Kia EV6 As Good As The Ford Mustang Mach-E?

Reviews

The Kia EV6 is a superb vehicle, as we recently discovered while testing it throughout Northern California. Doug DeMuro also recently put the EV6 through its paces and he too is impressed with what the South Korean automaker has cooked up.

As you probably already know, the EV6 is based on the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60. U.S. shoppers will initially be able to choose between three different powertrain setups but the flagship, high-performance GT model will soon be added to the range.

Sitting at the base of the EV6 family is the Light, complete with a single 167 hp electric motor driving the rear wheels. Sitting one step above this version is the EV6 Wind that is also rear-wheel drive but packs 225 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. The Wind is also available with two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and 320 hp and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm).

DeMuro starts off his review in the cabin of the EV6. He isn’t a fan of some things, such as the switchable climate control and infotainment buttons, or the fact that the digital instrument cluster doesn’t show what song you’re currently listening to. He is, however, particularly impressed with the second row of the EV6, noting that it offers excellent levels of legroom and headroom for even the tallest of adults, not something that you may expect given how sleek and low the roof appears to be from the outside.

Towards the end of the review, the YouTuber heads out onto the open road to put the EV6 through its paces. He ultimately rates it higher than the base Tesla Model 3 but notes this variant doesn’t quite rival the likes of the more powerful Tesla Model Y Performance and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. However, once the EV6 GT arrives, it should give the flagship Model Y Performance and Mustang Mach-E GT a run for their money.
