  • Police say the driver approached a curve with far too much speed and speared off the road.
  • Authorities ticketed several of the drivers caught on security camera overtaking a white VW Passat.

A Lamborghini Huracan has been destroyed by fire in the Hilltowns area of Albany, New York, while the driver was out for a cruise with several other exotics. Fortunately, the owner of the Italian exotic escaped without major injuries, but judging by the scorched wreck left behind, it’s clear things could have gone from bad to much worse.

The incident took place in late October, and although no footage of the crash itself exists, security cameras from a nearby property captured the 2015 Huracan moments before it went up in flames. In this short footage provide by the police, several exotics can be seen overtaking a white VW Passat. They appear to have included a Porsche 911 Turbo, a 911 GT3, two Ferrari 488 GTBs, bright green and bright blue 911s, the Huracan, and a new 911 GT3 RS.

While the driver of the Huracan was no doubt enjoying the sights and sounds of the drive, things quickly turned sour when they approached a curve with too much speed. It appears the Italian supercar smashed through a barrier and landed in an embankment on the side of the road. It then caught fire.

Speaking with Times Union, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said “the driver was going way too fast,” for the curve on Clarksville Road South. According to Apple, the sports cars and supercars had been “racing in the Hilltowns for several hours” before the crash. The owners had traveled up from the New York City area for the drive.

Photos from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office show the crash and subsequent fire destroyed the Lamborghini, rendering it nothing more than a pile of twisted and melted metal. It’s a sad sight and goes to show how quickly things can go wrong if you’re driving too fast for the road and conditions.

Here’s hoping the owner took a lesson from this costly misadventure and might consider showing a bit more restraint next time.
