Lucid Air Sapphire becomes world’s fastest armored car

Electric Cars

The Lucid Air Sapphire has now effectively become the world’s fastest armored car.

The armored Lucid Air Sapphire was the creation of the U.S. Armor Group, a global threat mitigation company that lists entities such as the Department of Defense and DARPA as some of its partnership organizations. As per the group, its Lucid Air Sapphire armored car is designed to reset “preconceptions about armored luxury.”

The armored Lucid Air Sapphire already has a very impressive base. There are few electric vehicles out there, after all, that boasts 1,234 hp, a 0-60 mph time of 1.89 seconds, a top speed of 205 mph, and a range of 427 miles per charge. A look at the armor package implemented by U.S. Armor Group shows that the company really made it a point to tune its modifications for the Sapphire.

As noted in a Car and Driver report, the armored Lucid Air Sapphire is equipped with lightweight ballistic windows that are able to withstand .44 Magnum rounds. These are accompanied by lightweight composite armor that is “10 times stronger than ballistic steel yet five times lighter.” Overall, U.S. Armor Group’s focus on lightweight armor seems to have paid off, as the entire package adds just about 385 lbs of weight, the equivalent of about two adults, to the Sapphire.

Perhaps most impressive is that the vehicle, even with its armor, is still expected to hit its 200+ mph top speed. Of course, all this protection comes at a price. As per U.S. Armor Group, its armored Lucid Air Sapphire starts at $425,000 before any dedicated add-ons.

The armored Lucid Air Sapphire is equipped with a number of unique features such as an “impenetrable” Wi-Fi system designed to protect private data, a system designed to detect nearby treats, and a dedicated one-touch feature that could call for help. Other features, which cost extra, include other insane functions like concealed gun ports, upgraded armor that can stop grenades, poison gas detectors, and door handles that can shock attackers, to name a few.
