Public map data makes it appear as though the driver was on this walkway for quite a while before getting stuck

Man Gets Toyota Camry Stuck On Pedestrian Bridge After Driving Through It

  • A Toyota Camry driver found themselves on a pedestrian walkway early on May 12.
  • Authorities say that the driver was under the influence of alcohol but made it out safely.
  • This whole squeezing-cars-into-tight-spaces trend really needs to stop.

We’ve all made poor decisions, but compounding one misstep with another can sting even more. Such seems to be the case for a Camry driver in California who found themselves inexplicably on a pedestrian bridge near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nellen Avenue along southbound US-101.

Law enforcement reports indicate that the driver, having allegedly consumed alcohol before hitting the road, somehow managed to wedge the Toyota sedan onto the path.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the car ended up stuck at around 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 12th. If that sounds a bit wild, the CHP confirmed it in a reply on its social media pages. “It’s alarming that we encounter drunk drivers at all hours of the day and night. We always hope to catch them before they crash,” it said. The incident occurred in Larkspur, California, north of San Francisco.

Public map data appears to show the pedestrian bridge in question and it makes the whole situation look worse. The path has a concrete barrier meant to protect pedestrians. It’s only on the other side of the walkway where the Camry was found that there’s a place where it could’ve driven onto it.

On top of that, it appears as though traffic is flowing in the opposite direction on the right of the sedan. Despite that, it seems as though the driver kept going until they got stuck. Put simply, they clearly missed several indications that they were in the wrong place.

On a positive note, they didn’t hurt anyone and police arrested them without incident. They’re not alone though in terms of drivers who try to squeeze into spaces where they don’t belong.

Back in July of 2023, a Nissan driver forced their SUV through the base of a historic 2,500-year-old tree. In the process, they damaged the tree itself and knocked the mirror off of their rental vehicle.

Then, in November of last year, a Chrysler 300 driver wanted to avoid some construction in Denver. Their genius idea was also to take a pedestrian walkway. Guess how that ended… with tons of scratches on the sedan, popped tires, and damage to other vehicles.

The message here is clear. Don’t drink and drive and especially don’t try to fit a car into a space where it doesn’t fit at all.
