Michigan Police Unintentionally T-Bone Fleeing Suspects At High Speed

Running from the police is never a good idea and sometimes the chase ends in dramatic and destructive ways. Two juveniles found that out the hard way as their attempt to escape police ended in a violent crash. All four individuals in the accident, including two officers, went to the hospital with serious injuries.

Michigan State Police report that an officer was chasing a fleeing suspect when the crash happened. A second patrol unit was attempting to join the chase when they came upon the running suspects. By the time the second unit and the fleeing car met at the intersection of Holbrook and Peck, each was traveling too fast to avoid contact.

Video shows the moments leading up to the accident. The suspects were in a now-confirmed stolen Ford Explorer and they drove into the intersection at a high rate of speed. The second police car joining the chase only sees them moments before the impact as they emerge from behind a building.

Troopers from the Grand Rapids Post were involved in a crash at the intersection of Holbrook and Peck in the City of Muskegon Heights. Initial report is that a trooper was pursuing a possible stolen vehicle when a second trooper vehicle, responding to assist, was struck 1/ pic.twitter.com/joFqDT9X0U

The crash is violent and powerful enough to roll the Ford over. “This is a situation that we never want to deal with, especially when we’re dealing with other individuals, we never want to see this happen,” Lt. Michelle Robinson told FOX 17. “Our thoughts go out to the troopers, their families, the families of the individuals that were in the other vehicle. It’s a senseless thing that happens.”

While both officers initially went to the hospital, one was discharged later that day. Police identified both of the individuals in the fleeing car as minors so their information is not available. One went to Grand Rapids Hospital while the other was taken to Muskegon Health Center. Their conditions are unknown.

Police haven’t released detailed findings of the investigation but it seems as though the second unit responding didn’t have vital information about where the suspects were and in what direction they were traveling.
