Moose Crashes BMW Workshop, Wages War On Restored E31 850i | Carscoops
The shop’s boss had to make a rather awkward call to the owner of the BMW that was been restored at the time

- It’s unclear how the moose broke into the facility of Schmiedmann Sweden.
- A BMW 850i was at the workshop being restored when the animal attacked.
- Another E31 850i and an E36 3-Series were also damaged.
A freshly painted E31 BMW 850i in Sweden will need to undergo some pretty significant bodywork repairs in Sweden, but not because it was involved in some kind of traffic accident. Instead, the prized two-door coupe was trampled by a moose that went rogue and wreaked havoc through a Swedish mechanic shop earlier in the month.
The bizarre incident happened at Schmiedmann Sweden, a BMW and Mini parts specialist. According to an employee at the facility, the CEO of the company, Viktor Örtegren, was visiting the facility over the weekend and started hearing some knocking from the workshop. He went to investigate, suspecting that it might be a customer. However, he found an unwelcome guest of a different kind: a huge moose.

Seeing a moose in Sweden certainly isn’t a rare occurrence, but somehow, this one worked its way inside the workshop. The owner pulled out his phone and captured footage of it freaking out while inside, trampling across the hood of the 850i. It eventually found its way outside and ventured back into the wilderness, seemingly no worse for wear. The same cannot be said about the 850i.
The car was at the shop being restored and had recently been resprayed in a shade of deep purple, The Drive reports. Unfortunately, the driver’s side door has been left with significant scratches and dents. The wing mirror has also been bent backward, and the front quarter panel was trashed by the huge animal. It also trampled on the BMW’s front bumper and hood, leaving both parts with significant damage that’ll no doubt cost a lot to repair.
It was an awkward call Örtegren had to make to the E31’s owner, as he told them “I’m terribly sorry, but a big moose came by and trampled your BMW 850.” At first, they thought it was a joke but, unfortunately, it wasn’t – and he had the video that showed the whole incident.
It’s not just this 8-Series that was damaged, as another E31 850i customer car was also on the wrong side of the random moose attack. A red E36 3-Series owned by one of the shop’s employees was also stomped by the moose and will need some minor repairs.
