Rivian R1T Crashes Into Multiple Cars Before Smashing Through Hollywood Pizza Shop | Carscoops
Footage from the accident that occurred in Hollywood appears to show Rivian’s electric pickup out of control before it created its own drive-thru at a pizza joint

The driver of a Rivian R1T smashed their electric truck into multiple vehicles and then straight through the wall of a pizza restaurant in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Tuesday night. Authorities are still working to piece together exactly what happened but commentators online have all sorts of theories. At least one person is in the hospital and authorities say that the building might have structural damage.
Surveillance video from the scene that was shared on social media, appears to show the Rivian accelerating from a standstill just before the crash. It pushes one vehicle into the intersection, t-bones the rear quarter of a second, and then hits the building. Photographs of the aftermath reveal that it ended up lodged in a bathroom inside the pizza joint.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact cause of the crash, leaving room for several possibilities. Some kind of medical emergency could be to blame. On the other hand, it’s also conceivable that a software glitch may have led to unintended acceleration. Somewhere in the middle lies the possibility that the driver mistakenly pressed the wrong pedals in a moment of panic, triggering the entire incident.
At least one person, a 32-year-old man, was hospitalized but police aren’t saying who that person was. As for the building, Rallallo’s Pizza, it might have somehow fared worse than the R1T.
The resulting force of that much mass (over 7,100 pounds or 3,220 kg) traveling at high speed into the structure has authorities concerned that the integrity of the building might be compromised. The fire department’s urban search and rescue team is evaluating the damage there according to KTLA. As this story develops we’ll bring you updates.
