The Indy Autonomous Challenge will hold a self-driving racing competition at Italy’s famed Monza F1 circuit.
Race organizers said they have inked a two-year agreement with the Milan Monza auto show to hold autonomous competitions at the track. The first race will take place in June.
After races in Indianapolis, Texas and two in Las Vegas, the race will be the first international event for the Indy Autonomous Challenge. It also marks the first departure from oval tracks.
The 2023 race will be more exhibition-like in format while teams make the transition to a road course, and 2024’s event will be a full race.
“What we really like about CES and Monza is it gives us these bookends where we have one major event in Europe in the summer, and then a major event in the U.S.,” said Paul Mitchell, CEO of the Indy Autonomous Challenge.
“We just feel like this partnership with CES is such a perfect fit.”
