Sheriff Busts 16-Year-Old Driving 132 MPH In Toyota GR Supra In Florida, Calls His Dad

Authorities in Florida have fined a 16-year-old after he was busted doing 132 mph (212 km/h) on the I-4 in Orange County. Making things worse for the teen is that he was driving his dad’s Toyota Supra at the time he was caught.

Footage of the incident was recently shared on social media by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. In the clip, Corporal Greg Ritter appears to be visibly shocked when the driver tells him he is just 16 and then proceeds to call his father, informing him of the unfortunate news.

“Dad, this is Corporal Rittger at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office,” he says on the call. “I need you to come out here and pick up your son… I’m on the express lanes, I-4 express lanes, I just clocked your son at 132 miles per hour. 132 miles per hour! Can you and another driver come get him.”

The officer then informed the speedy Supra driver that had he been 18, he would be going to jail for reckless driving and that the car would be towed. Fortunately for him, he escaped with a speeding citation for $1,104 and will be required to appear in court.

Speaking with Local 10 News, Orange County Sheriff Sgt. Gerald McDaniels said it is not uncommon for young drivers to be caught speeding.

“Catch them all the time. This year alone, multiple teenagers well over 100 miles an hour on different highways,” he said. “For me, that conversation is trying to try to wake the teenager up to hey, you may think you’re the best driver but all it takes is a split second at those speeds. As parents as part of our job, we need to be paying attention to how fast our kids are going with GPS and all the different things that we have available with technology. There’s no excuse not to know how your kids are driving.”
