There Won’t Be A New Ford Focus RS, So Is The ST Quick Enough For Enthusiasts?

It’s a shame that Ford isn’t building an RS version of the current-generation Focus but the existing ST model is still a very impressive performer, as this video shows.

The guys from Motor in Australia recently headed to a local drag strip with a Focus ST and set about seeing just how quick it can be. The car they tested had the available seven-speed automatic transmission, rather than the six-speed manual the car can also be ordered with.

In order to get the best possible launch, the hot hatch’s traction control system is completely disabled and the reviewer does his best to minimize wheel spin to get the best possible launch. After four attempts, the best 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time was 5.4 seconds, while the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint took 5.69 seconds, matching Ford’s claims. The car ultimately crossed the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds at 167.2 km/h.

It must be noted though that these times were set on a drag strip that had some leftover VHT on the surface after a recent drag racing event and matching these times on the street could be a bit of a challenge.

Powering the current Focus ST is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 276 hp and an impressive 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque.
