The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the most well-rounded electric vehicles on the market and it is already being put to good use as a taxi in Jordan.
These images recently popped up on our Facebook feed by EV Store Jordan and show an Ioniq 5 finished in a bright shade of yellow and serving as a taxi. It’s the first time we’ve seen an Ioniq 5 being used as a privately-owned taxi and while there aren’t all that many electric taxis out there, the Hyundai is quite well-suited to the job.
For starters, the Ioniq 5 is one of the fastest-charging EVs on the market and when plugged into a 350 kW DC charger, its 77.4 kWh battery pack can be topped up from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. That means less time waiting at charging stations and more time that the owner can be on the road taking people to where they need to go.
Then there’s the overall shape and size of the Ioniq 5. The crossover has a very large cabin, thanks in part to its 3,000 mm (118 inch) wheelbase. That means rear-seat passengers have an extraordinary amount of legroom. After all, there’s nothing worse than jumping in a taxi only to find that it’s cramped and claustrophobic. The Ioniq 5 is exactly the opposite.
Does the EV look a little weird finished in yellow with green stickers and a Taxi light on the roof? Sure, but as electric taxis go, this is surely one of the best options.
