The public in the United Kingdom is famed for its ability to name things by popular vote. So, when it had to find a name for the new shade of yellow that would grace the updated T-Cross, VW UK turned to the people, and they weren’t disappointed.
For 2024, the official paint code for all T-Crosses that are finished in yellow in the UK will be “Rubber Ducky.” While it might not be quite as silly as “Boaty McBoatface,” you can certainly see how the people were inspired by their favorite bath toy.
“Some might say putting a paint name to public vote is a quackers idea,” said Oliver Lowe, T-Cross Product Manager at Volkswagen UK. “But we were confident people wouldn’t get in a flap while trying to decide on a new name, and we think Rubber Ducky yellow was a really eggs-cellent choice.”

Volkswagen UK says that Rubber Ducky won with 46 percent of the vote, but there were some pretty good alternatives. On the automaker’s Instagram account, we saw people make some surprisingly nice suggestions, like “Lemon Meringue,” “Honey Harvest,” and “Buttercup Breeze”.
But Rubber Ducky is a fine choice, and it will join the lineup alongside another two colors that are new to the UK T-Cross lineup for 2024: Clear blue metallic and Kings red metallic. In addition to the new colors, buyers will also benefit from new exterior design, better standard equipment, new tech, and an improved interior.
2024 T-Crosses painted Rubber Ducky yellow are making their way to showrooms now, reports Volkswagen UK, with a starting price of £23,965 (~$30,400 USD at current exchange rates).
