Woman Drives Chrysler 300 Straight Into Ditch Ignoring Construction Workers’ Warnings

by Stephen Rivers

Construction workers can have a tough job and it’s made even harder by the inherent dangers they face. One thing they’re not usually on the lookout for is cars blatantly disregarding signs and signals to avoid the area. Despite that, it’s exactly what a few workers got when someone drove a Chrysler 300 directly into a construction ditch and it’s all caught on video.

Details are a little light right now but what we can confirm is that the accident took place on Wednesday morning in Dayton, Ohio around 10:30 a.m. Authorities say it happened at S. Jersey Street and Burkhardt Ave despite a number of warning signs telling drivers to avoid the area.

According to local news outlet WDTN, the driver, a 42-year-old woman, struck a number of those signs before approaching the workers. That’s the moment that the video picks up where the workers see the car and begin to gesture toward it, waving their arms in an attempt to stop the driver. Their efforts prove unsuccessful as we see her drive straight into the eight-foot-deep hole in the video below.

One construction worker was in the hole as the Chrysler 300 approached but was able to escape injury at the last second. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extracted the woman with critical injuries. As reported by WHIOTV7, She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where police say that she’s now in stable condition.

Crews required a large tow truck with a swing arm and suspension components to lift the car up before it could be pulled out. As of this writing, there’s no word on why the woman ignored the road signs or the signals from the construction workers themselves.

It’s worth noting that after the car falls into the hole we can see the rear tires still spinning as though the driver is still pressing the accelerator. That could be an indication of a number of factors from the driver being possibly incapacitated with her foot stuck on the throttle or a malfunction after the crash. It’s unknown whether or not drugs, alcohol, or medications played a factor in the accident.
