Officials recently responded to a call about a Jeep Wrangler nearly completely submerged in a Marion County, Texas lake. When they arrived and began recovery operations they noticed a woman inside. Then they realized that she was still alive.
We’ve seen a number of incidents surrounding SUVs that end up a fair bit deeper in water or mud than their drivers’ initially intended. There was a Bronco that ended up stuck and then sunk on a sandbar. Then a Rivian R1S ended up buried to its axles in deep mud. Recently a Tesla Model X was pulled out of the Danube.
This kind of thing happens more often than one might think but what is not very normal is finding a person in one, much less a living one that’s survived for hours. Evidently, that’s exactly what happened here as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chuck Rogers confirmed to USA Today.

“We do not know exactly how long the jeep was in the water. The victim confirmed it was at least a few hours,” he said. Police were initially contacted by a fisherman. They had spotted the Jeep in Lake O’the Pines near southwest Marion County. A tow truck driver arrived at the scene to pull the jeep out.
“It was at that time they saw the woman,” Rogers said. “The fisherman and wrecker employee were able to help the woman from the Jeep. They placed her into the boat and she was brought to shore.” According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman went to the hospital and in the process of the investigation, they learned that she was a missing person from Longview, Texas.
